About

Our Curriculum

Arts Playschool is supported by the Center for Creative Arts Therapy in Downers Grove, a perfect collaboration of artists, clinicians and educators. Through rich and varied experiences with the arts in combination with a sound preschool education, children grow in both self-esteem and intellectual ability. The Arts Playschool curriculum allows students the opportunity to work with professional artists, actors, dancers, and musicians; create performances; and explore in the art studio. Lots of fun, lots of love, and lots of good arts experiences that nurture creative thinking, decision making, imagination, and art appreciation.

The Arts Playschool Curriculum was specifically designed for your child. It emphasizes the importance of activating the WHOLE BODY to create new understanding of the traditional learning concepts. This creative approach to learning is research-based and proven to enhance the OVERALL DEVELOPMENT of the child (physically, cognitively, socially, and emotionally).

Our curriculum is implemented to meet the goals of the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards and the Social Emotional Learning competencies through weekly art, music, drama, and creative movement lessons. All of the skills and knowledge needed for your child's educational milestones will be developed in a more creative and immersive manner. During creative activity, the whole brain is activated, therefore increasing cognitive learning and communication.

The Daily Experience

Arts Playschool is for all children who are eager to dive right into learning! This is an exploratory program, where ‘living by learning’ is key. Social development and basic knowledge are enhanced as these students become responsible and independent.

The introduction of letters and numbers, as well as other fundamental ideas, is the focal point of this program. The intention of this experience is to guide your child to become accustomed to an established learning environment, and instill a genuine interest in learning.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING

"Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

For a growing number of schools and districts, SEL has become a coordinating framework for how educators, families, and communities partner to promote students’ social, emotional, and academic learning.

SEL is embedded in their strategic plans, staffing, professional learning, and budgets. It guides their curriculum choices and classroom instruction — both direct practice in SEL as well as integrated instruction with reading, math, history, and other core subjects."

- - Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL)

Here is how we incorporate SEL into your child's experience.

Founder’s Notes

We teach to the child that learns by moving, exploring and creating."

Arts PlaySchool brings together children's creative mind/body connection with the arts. While focusing on a curriculum-based structure, our teachers and staff members incorporate the arts into children's learning while supporting their Social Emotional Learning.

Your child can experience an art-integrated program that teaches the traditional preschool standards through art, music, movement, and drama. Our goal is to inspire creative, lifelong learners within a nurturing environment.
